Benefits
Recent studies have highlighted the potential for
information technology (IT) to improve patient safety and management of chronic
conditions such as heart failure, diabetes and hypertension. Systems that
enhance patient-clinician communication, access to patient information, as well
as decision support and reference data, hold the promise of improving the
efficiency and effectiveness of health care delivery. The Doctors’ Office Quality - Information
Technology (DOQ-IT)
is a national initiative that promotes the adoption of electronic health records
(EHRs) and IT in primary care physician offices.
