I wanted to provide a quick update on our Part 2 advocacy efforts. As mentioned in my email last week, timelines can often slip or speed up—in this case—things are moving quickly.
As you may know, the Senate is expected to consider its opioid package Monday evening. Rumors are circulating about the timing of an informal conference process after the Senate passes its opioid bill. We have heard about a potential pre-conference over this weekend or a quick “back and forth” between House and Senate conferees next week or so to resolve differences between the two bills.
This is our best shot to get HR 6082 across the finish line this year. For that reason, we need ALL hands on deck. We are asking AHIMA members to contact their House and Senate lawmakers this week and next to urge them to include provisions aligning Part 2 with HIPAA (HR 6082/S 1850) in the final opioid package. AHIMA’s Advocacy Action Center has everything you need including a script when speaking with congressional offices as well as how to contact them.
Here is the direct link to the engagement. This will also be shared with those on AHIMA’s grassroots advocacy distribution list shortly.
I’m also attaching a grassroots action alert here. Please feel free to include this in your weekly newsletters and share it far and wide.
If you have any questions or if we can be of any assistance, please let us know, we are happy to help. I will continue to keep you all updated as things progress!
