About IHIMA

The Indiana Health Information Management Association (IHIMA) is a component state association (CSA) of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Founded in 1948 to improve the quality of medical records, IHIMA is committed to advancing the HI profession in an increasingly electronic and global environment through leadership in advocacy, education, certification, and lifelong learning.

Members are experts in the effective management of health information required to deliver quality healthcare to the public. IHIMA members support quality patient care by leading in the creation and use of trusted information, facilitating data sharing through technology, and advocating and leading on regulatory issues related to our industry.

IHIMA members work in such settings as hospitals, physician practices, ambulatory care facilities, managed care organizations, consulting firms, rehabilitation centers, information systems vendors, colleges and universities, government agencies, pharmaceutical companies, insurance providers, and other venues.

Most IHIMA members are active members of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and hold a variety of credentials issued by AHIMA. These credentials are issued based on examinations which tests ones experience, knowledge, and education regarding health information.

Within IHIMA, there are three (3) component regional associations. The regional associations provide networking and educational opportunities to members at the local level.

IHIMA is governed by a Board of Directors and its governing documents include the IHIMA Bylaws and Mission & Vision Statements.
