Job Description: The HIM Director is responsible for the management of all aspects of the department including the planning, organizing, and managing electronic and paper clinical content, electronic data integrity, accessibility, use and protection of health information. To ensure compliance with the accreditation standards, state, and federal law. This position is responsible for highly efficient and effective HIM management strategies that align with the hospital’s strategic goals and objectives.
Essential Functions:
  • Lead and provide operational directives for the HIM department.
  • Maintain department productivity, quality, and efficiency for all processes in the department.
  • Responsible for information governance to ensure facility-wide health data integrity, privacy, and security.
  • Review and evaluate all audits of the medical record which may include CMS, WPS, OIG, RAC, and DRG.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures to support accurate and complete medical record documentation.
  • Collaborate with leaders of the Revenue Cycle to meet Revenue cycle goals and objectives.
  • Ensure documentation is filed in the medical records in an accurate and timely manner and ensure the medical record is complete (including signatures) and closed within facility guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively and assertively as necessary to assure timely completion of medical records documentation by providers practicing at the hospital.
  • Oversee and assist with data collection, storage, retrieval, assembly, analysis, filing and retention of medical records/data.
  • Chair the Forms Committee and facilitate approval of documents that flow to the medical record.
  • Responsible for vendor contract management as it applies to the HIM department.
  • Standardize and maintain processes that impact HIM and Revenue Cycle goals and objectives including identifying opportunities and/or process re-design, as well as recommending and implementing corrective actions, solutions, and/or efficiencies.
  • Facilitate the successful implementation of new/special projects, processes, and changes to operations. 

Required Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in Health Information Technology, related field or related experience. Skills/Competencies: Health Information Management knowledge, coding and reimbursement practices, privacy laws, access, release of information and release control technologies; Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications as well as Electronic Medical Record software; and Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to medical records management, the release of medical records, and HIPAA privacy.
Education Requirements: Five years of related supervisory experience. Five years HIM/coding experience.
Preferred Qualifications: RHIT or RHIA Certified. Certified coding specialist.
Compensation/Benefits: Full-Time, 80 Hours Bi-Weekly, Benefit Eligible
