Job Description:

  • Serves as coding subject matter expert for one of the following reimbursement methodologies Illinois Outpatient Medicaid (knowledge and understanding of EAPGs reimbursement methodologies and edits); Indiana Outpatient Medicaid (knowledge and understanding of EAPGs reimbursement methodologies and edits) with experience in OP Surgical Coding for Same Day Surgery, Observation and Emergency Room procedural coding.
  • Demonstrates an expert knowledge of coding guidelines, medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, reimbursement schemes, and payer specific guidelines. Understands how ICD codes, EAPGs and SOI/ROM scores are used for reimbursement, public reporting of outcomes, reviewing quality of patient care, financial modeling, strategic planning and marketing.
  • Applies broad guidelines to specific coding situations, independently utilizing discretion and a significant level of analytic ability.
  • Remains current with coding and industry changes through participation in educational opportunities to maintain coding credentials.
  • Reviews and analyzes the content of the medical record to determine when documentation should be utilized for appropriate assignment of ICD diagnosis codes, CPT surgical procedures, modifiers, hierarchical condition categories, complications, and comorbidities to meet coding guidelines.
  • Identify cases that may require provider documentation clarification regarding documentation inconsistencies or lack of specificity to accurately assign codes. Collaborates with clinical departments and physicians on documentation improvement.

Required Qualifications: Required High School Diploma/GED, 3 years Coding – Required Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) - Required

Education Requirements: Required High School Diploma/GED, Associates or Bachelors Degree - Preferred

Preferred Qualifications: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) – Preferred; Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) - Preferred

Columbus Regional Hospital, the system’s flagship facility, is a 225-bed, not-for-profit hospital, providing emergency and surgical services and comprehensive care in numerous specialty areas. Columbus Regional Health Physicians offers a network of primary and specialty care physicians. 

Job Description: What you need to know about this position:

  • This role provides direction to system-wide compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Rule and other privacy-related state and federal regulations.
  • The Privacy Officer is involved in all activities related to the operation of Columbus Regional Health’s commitment to protecting the privacy of patient and other confidential information.
  • The Privacy Officer oversees and directs the work on the Privacy and Regulatory Analyst and collaborates with Columbus Regional Health Leadership.
  • This position serves as the role of Privacy Officer in relation to protected health information, for Columbus Regional Hospital, Columbus Regional Health Physicians, and affiliated long term care facilities.
  • The Privacy Officer works closely with Human Resources, Health Information Management, Legal, and Information Security.
  • This position reports to the Vice President - Revenue Cycle.
  • This full-time position would require you to work 40 weekly hours, 8:00AM-5:00PM, Monday through Friday. This position is partial remote eligible.


  • Education and /or Experience-Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or related field required.
  • Master’s degree or Juris Doctor degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a privacy officer required.
  • Experience in HIPAA privacy auditing, conducting investigations, monitoring standards, regulatory compliance or related experience in a healthcare field required. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations-Certified Healthcare Compliance (CHC), Certified Healthcare Privacy and Compliance (CHPC), Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or Privacy Certification or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) required.

The base hourly rate for this position is $34.69, annualized to $72,155. Individual compensation is determined for this position through years of directly relevant experience. The hourly compensation is only a portion of the total rewards package, and a comprehensive benefits program is available for qualifying positions.
